Bom artigo o da revista The Economist, sobre as medidas tomadas nos Estados Unidos a propósito da concentração dos média. Excerto: The new rules, detailed in July, finally acknowledge the extra competition. They relax, in modest ways, some of the earlier restrictions. For example, America's four-biggest television networks are allowed to own stations whose broadcasts can reach 45% of the national audience, up from 35%. Within some local markets, some firms will be able to own three TV broadcasters instead of two. In most markets, media firms will be able to own both a TV station and a newspaper, lifting a blanket ban, although other restrictions will remain. The overall approach seems rather too cautious (the national-ownership cap would remain highly restrictive), but somewhat principled and likely at least to withstand scrutiny from the courts.
Há um outro artigo da mesma revista, sobre o mesmo tema, que também merece ser lido, este mais informativo.

September Poem
Deborah Garrison
Now can I say?
On that blackest day,
When I learned of
The uncountable, the hellbent obscenity,
I felt, with shame, a seed in me,
Powerful and inarticulate:
I wanted to be pregnant.
Women in the street flowing toward
Home, dazed with grief, and my daze
Admixed with jealous awe, I wondered
If they were,
Or wished for it, too,
To be full, to be forming,
To be giving our blood’s food
To the yet to be.
To feel the warp of morning’s
Hormonal chucking, the stutter kiss
Of first movement. At first,
The idea of sex a further horror:
To take pleasure in a collision
Of bodies was vile, self-centered, too lush.
But the pushy, ennobling pulse
Of the ordinary won’t halt
For good taste. Or knows nothing of tragedy.
Thus. Today I have a boy
A week old. Blessed surplus:
A third child.
Have you heard mothers,
Matter of fact, call the third
The insurance policy?
That wasn’t why.
And not because when so many people
Die we want, crudely pining,
To replace them with more people.
But for the wild, heaven-grazing
Pleasure and pain of the arrival.
The small head crushed and melony
After a journey
Out. Sheer cliff
Of the first day, flat in bed, gut-empty,
Ringed by memories and sharp cries.
Sharp bliss in proximity to the roundness,
The globe already a-spin, particular,
Of a whole new life.
Which might in any case
End in towering sorrow.

PREFABRICADOS
Razõeses de ser do local: There is an eager market segment that desires to build and own a modernist dwelling, but cannot afford to commission a custom-designed solution. While kit or prefab homes are available in a range of either "traditional" or "alternative" forms, surprisingly few prefab homes exist that truly embrace modernist ideals. Predominant mass-market housing programs such as project homes or tract housing largely fail to meet the desires of people who appreciate a modernist design aesthetic.
At fabprefab we believe the market is ready for a "Model-T" modernist prefab dwelling. While the one-size-fits-all kit-house might seem anathema to some architects who are trained to respond uniquely to the needs of each client, site and climate, we believe an affordable pre-configured modernist structure will be embraced by the market and will open new opportunities for modernist dwellings that are more flexible or modular in configuration.
While architects are clearly interested in exploring the use of prefabrication methods in design and construction, this is only one piece of the puzzle. Marketing a turn-key prefab dwelling is as much about understanding a business model as being able to design a structure. “Commercialization is traditionally the domain of developers rather than design professionals. So who will successfully bring these prefab projects to market? While we doubt that modernist prefab will ever be mainstream, as long as the design is expected to "sell itself", modernist prefab will remain a niche domain.
Our goal at fabprefab is to provide a forum for exploring developments in the modernist prefab marketplace. Community stakeholders include, amongst others, prospective owners, architects/designers, builders/contractors, suppliers, developers, city planners, lenders, insurers and various commentators.

UMBIGO
