She asked them what they did, and one said he was an elevator man. “We were just in the elevator!” she said, as if this made them practically related. “It was fantastic—I loved it!” She got him to call his wife to tell her to watch the première. His wife didn’t catch what he said, so he repeated it. Ellen took the phone from him and said, as if she really meant business, “Donna? It’s Ellen DeGeneres. Há uns dias que ando com uma melodia no ouvido e demorei algum tempo a localizá-la nos arquivos da memória. Só me lembrava de uma voz rouca que repetia «waltzing mathilda». Finalmente localizei: a voz rouca é a de Tom Waits, em «Tom Traubert's Blues», uma canção do seu álbum «Small Change» de 1976 e reza assim:
