Muito oportuno o artigo de capa da edição mais recente da Columbia Journalism Review, sobre o que é a objectividade Re-thinking Objectivity. Partindo dos acontecimentos à volta da Guerra do Iraque e da cobertura que foi feita, o autor do artigo, Brent Cunningham, analisa seriamente uma das mais cruciais questões do jornalismo contemporâneo e que bem aguda se tem vindo a tornar em Portugal nos últimos tempos - de facto proliferam as notícias escritas a partir de uma posição pré-estabelecida, na realidade tendenciosas, o que muitas vezes distorce a realidade dos factos e a importância relativa das coisas - a posição pró-Bloco de Esquerda de numero considerável de jornalistas teve uma influência assinalável no invulgarmente rápido ganho de notoriedade desta organização política antes das últimas eleições. Witness the memo John Carroll, editor of the Los Angeles Times, wrote last month to his staff after a front-page piece on a new Texas abortion law veered left of center: "I want everyone to understand how serious I am about purging all political bias from our coverage." ».
